Case Results

At Conklin Law Firm, we focus on criminal appeals, habeas corpus petitions, and parole hearings across Georgia. Below are examples of how our appellate team has successfully reversed convictions, vacated sentences, and secured favorable outcomes for clients in Atlanta and beyond.

Supreme Court of Georgia:

Sales v. State

Convictions for felony murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm reversed

Twitty v. State

Convictions for malice murder, felony murder, and the unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime reversed

Jones v. State

Convictions for conversion and theft by receiving stolen property reversed

Sutton v. State

Court of Appeals ordered to reinstate Defendant’s appeal

Dills v. Weaver, S25A1367 (Ga. Jan. 5, 2026)

Judgment Affirmed (Habeas Corpus Granted)
The Supreme Court of Georgia unanimously affirmed a grant of habeas corpus relief for our client, overturning her 2014 conviction. The Court agreed with our argument that the client’s trial attorney labored under an actual conflict of interest by previously representing her co-defendant. We successfully demonstrated that this conflict prevented the trial attorney from shifting blame to the co-defendant, thereby denying our client her Sixth Amendment right to effective counsel.

Georgia Court of Appeals:

Deandre Ross v. State

Reversal of two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony

Henderson v. State

Sexual battery conviction reversed

Zamudio v. State

Attempted murder sentence vacated

Honester v. State

Obstruction of an officer conviction reversed

Gibson-Wright v. Smith (2024)

12 month protective order reversed

The State v. Jackson (2023)

Successfully argued that the State’s appeal should be dismissed

Willis v. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Inc., A25A2043 (Ga. Ct. App. Nov. 25, 2025)

Judgment Reversed (Summary Judgment Overturned)
The Court of Appeals of Georgia reversed a trial court’s order granting summary judgment against our client in a premises liability case. The Court agreed with our argument that the client did not need expert medical testimony to link her injuries to the fall, despite having a pre-existing condition. We successfully demonstrated that because the client’s prior injury had resolved before the incident, a lay jury was capable of determining causation, reinstating our client’s right to a trial.

Trial Court decisions:

State v. Adam

Court allowed Defendant to withdraw his guilty plea to murder

State v. Jeffrey Burns

Felony fleeing and eluding conviction reduced to a misdemeanor
